Northern won a hat trick of accolades at the National Rail Awards in London, which celebrate excellence and achievement in the UK rail industry.
Northern won the Outstanding Teamwork Award for the second year running. This year it was the turn of the Flood Response Team for the way they managed the disruption caused by last summer’s flooding. The judges said: "The commitment of the Northern team was exemplary."
Our people were winners too with train driver Neil Bentley claiming the Outstanding Personal Contribution award. Not only does he drive trains but he also spends his spare time as the life and soul of the Penistone Line Partnership. The judges said they were in no doubt that the achievements of this line would not have happened without Neil's energy and commitment.
And last but by no means least, Heidi Mottram, Northern’s Managing Director, took the senior executive title. The judges said, "Heidi has always led from the front. A consummate railway professional, her energy, commitment and focus have shone through."
Northern was also highly commended in the Putting Passengers First category for the work we have done to improve Harrogate and Rochdale stations.
Heidi said, “It was a brilliant night for Northern. These awards are fantastic recognition of the hard work and commitment of all our employees. We've made a lot of progress in delivering a better service for our customers since we started, but we're determined to keep improving."
